Scope – The purpose As opposed to the current educational system that requires students to spend more time in the classroom, limiting their creative activities in nature, we propose the development of outdoor spaces, where students and children in general, may experience the values of ecology while playing, and get the essence of harmony through music.

Environment – The space

The architectural design will be planned so that mostly ecological materials may be used for the building of the limited structures and toys. Likewise all the mechanical requirements will ensure the rational use of energy according to the values of sustainability. We believe that there should be no less than the following spaces:

• Pond with aquatic flora and “mud houses”.

• Swings, seesaws, and carousel all designed in order to produce energy and music.

• Arts and crafts workshop.

• Music workshop.

• Small amphitheatre for simple live performances.

• Waiting lounge for parents.

Toys

The musical windmill & the lighting weathercock
  • The musical windmill The lightest wind activates the fins arranged on the upper part of a grounded spiral that rotates around its center; several metallic shapechanging by the fins, hit the cymbals – founded at the base of the structure – to produce music sounds. A generator installed at the base of the spiral produces electric power that is saved in batteries within the body of the spiral, to be used during night time.
  • The lighting weathercock A propeller with aligning stabilizers, a wind generator, and a LED lighting device are arranged on a turning base that pivots on a 9 feet high pole, grounded on earth. The wind generates the mill, so that the generator produces enough power that is saved again in the batteries installed within the body of the spiral, to be used during night time.
  • The musical seesaw The retrogressive movement of a classic seesaw installed in a shallow pond, activates a mechanical water pump. An additional mechanism may also be activated according to the movement of the children on the seesaw, so that it produces a musical theme.
  • Musical swings The retrogressive movement of a swing activates a generator that produces electric power for a lighting fixture, both arranged on a central suspension axis. Simultaneously a bell, tuned in a specific key, moves according to the speed of the child on the swing. Seven or more swings may produce a “musical phrase”.
The mythological carousel
  • The mythological carousel The carousel of the park will be hosting animals and imaginary creatures of the Greek Mythology such as sirens, mermaids, griffins, centaurs… These creatures may be designed by Greek artists. The movement of this carousel will be insured by the electrical power produced by the solar PV panels (photovoltaics) installed on the surfaces of its canopy.
