“I was introduced to the art of
Stephen Antonakos in 1995, on the
occasion of his show in a prominent
gallery in Athens. Looking at
his installation “Ascension” I
felt an overwhelming sense of
inspiration, which I may describe
as an interactive connection
between myself and the world of
Art. Through this particular work,
Stephen awakened my innermost
thoughts and feelings in a totally
new way.

The “Meditation Space”, is in
principle a “sculpture”, the artistic
creation of Stephen Antonakos.
When the construction of this
building is complete, it will feature
a space of concentration,
without attention to religion or
creed, where anyone may enter
to gain the perspective of self –
awareness.

Keeping these ideals in mind
which I discussed extensively with
Stephen during our meetings,
here in NY and Athens, I studied
and executed the construction
drawings for the “Meditation
Centre”.We commissioned a
1:1 scale model of part of the
building in order to carefully
examine the aesthetics and also
to confirm the performance of
the technical equipment: the
wiring, lighting, heating, cooling,
and other components.

We are committed to utilizing
natural energy sources through
state-of-the art-technology,
in order to make the building
self-sufficient, in harmony with
nature, and contemporary. It will
be illuminated by solar power
through the use of photo-voltaic
panels, and it will be heated and
cooled with geo-thermal energy.

As the Architect carrying out
Stephen’s vision, I will encompass
the dual relationship that unifies
the thinking and contemplation,
the relationship between the
individual and universality. I will
support the implementation of
the project by expressing the
concepts of space and time as
much as these notions may be
attached to a building whose
message is to express freedom,
solidarity, brotherhood, and the
link between our inner-self and
nature.

To seek to meditate is a noble
pursuit. Searching for the silence
in thought, in order to discover
the mind and the heart, is rather
challenging in our complicated
society.

To be offered the opportunity to
enter an environment that will lift
the spirit and release the soul is
a blessing that through the years
we trust will turn this particular
space into a sacred one…”
